Short answer: “Without Wi-Fi” can mean a feeder programmed on the device, or a connected feeder that keeps dispensing a saved schedule after its network connection drops. PetSafe’s Healthy Pet Simply Feed is programmed through onboard controls. PETLIBRO says its Granary WiFi Feeder PLAF103 continues scheduled meals when offline. A power cut is a separate question: check the exact model’s battery behavior before relying on it.
These examples draw on exact-model manufacturer documentation. A saved schedule does not confirm that food reached the bowl or was eaten.
Three situations to check
| Situation | Model and documented behavior | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Set up without an app or Wi-Fi | PetSafe Healthy Pet Simply Feed (PFD00-14574): the maker’s setup guide programs meal times and portions with the feeder’s buttons and screen. Its product page lists up to 12 meals a day, four D-cell alkaline batteries and an optional wall adapter sold separately. | Useful for onboard scheduling. PetSafe documents installed batteries as mains backup; outage runtime remains unverified. After total power loss, check time and schedule. |
| Internet unavailable, feeder still powered | PETLIBRO Granary WiFi Feeder (PLAF103): PETLIBRO says scheduled meals continue while the feeder is offline, but the app is unavailable. | Remote app access is unavailable during the network interruption. This claim is specific to PLAF103. |
| Feeder runs on batteries alone | PLAF103: PETLIBRO says scheduled meals continue while Wi-Fi, play and reset functions are disabled. It describes alkaline D batteries as an emergency plan and advises against using batteries as the only power source. | The guidance gives no runtime. Do not infer Wi-Fi, recording, alerts or indefinite operation. |

What to compare before choosing
- Initial setup: Can you enter feeding times on the unit, or does setup require an app and network? PetSafe documents on-device programming for PFD00-14574.
- Saved schedule: Does the maker explicitly say the schedule continues if the network is down? PETLIBRO says yes for PLAF103; do not apply this to another Wi-Fi model without its own documentation.
- Power backup: What batteries are required, and which functions stop in battery-only mode? PLAF103 keeps its meal schedule but disables selected functions. PetSafe’s current adapter listing documents installed batteries as backup during loss of mains power; it establishes no guaranteed runtime.
- Runtime: Is a duration stated for the exact model and conditions? This guide does not claim a backup runtime for PLAF103.
- Food delivery: How will you notice an empty hopper, jam or missed meal if remote app access is unavailable? Automation does not confirm that a cat ate.
Choose based on the failure you need to handle: a lost network connection during powered use, or loss of household power. If the maker does not document behavior for your exact model, treat it as unknown rather than assuming the schedule or backup will work.
PetSafe power backup and refill preparation
PetSafe’s Healthy Pet Simply Feed PFD00-14574 is programmed on the unit. Its current US adapter listing documents installed batteries as backup during loss of mains power. This supports a fixed routine without network setup; it does not establish a guaranteed outage duration. If all power is lost, check and re-enter time and meal schedule when prompted by setup instructions.
Prime the conveyor after every refill, then verify the next scheduled delivery. Priming prepares the belt; it does not calibrate food to grams. See our Simply Feed review for portion and maintenance constraints.
